Teach your children water safety. Drowning can happen nearly anywhere with standing water. As a parent or caregiver, it is necessary to equip your children with the skills they need to be confident in and around water. With this confidence, they can develop self-esteem, discover new ways to stay healthy, and build lifelong relationships.
The YMCA's Safety Around Water program teaches essential water safety skills, which will open a world of possibilities for all kids.
Safety Around Water (SAW)
At this time, Safety Around Water Classes are only offered at the YMCA of Jefferson County. This program is specifically designed to meet the needs of those in our community with limited or no prior swimming experience.
The Safety Around Water program is designed to reduce drowning risk by teaching children essential water safety and survival skills such as:
- Confidence and competence.
- Teaching techniques like "Jump, Push, Turn, Grab" and "Swim, Float, Swim" for unexpected water entries.
