Develop knowledge, skills and confidence to respond to a medical emergency in a remote or wilderness setting.
This 4-session training takes place over two weekends (April 6 & 7 and April 13 & 14). Participants must participate in all four sessions.
Instructor: Bill Caples is a retired firefighter/EMT with real life experience in administering and teaching first aid and CPR. Bill will bring his actual
experiences to this class and provide valuable preparedness tips.
Topics Include:
• Protecting yourself | • Musculoskeletal injuries |
• Moving and lifting | • Extended injury management |
• Scene assessment, Initial Assessment, Secondary Assessment | • Altered mental status |
• Shock | • Breathing difficulty |
• Control of bleeding | • Abdominal problems |
• Major wounds | • Poisoning |
• Facial injuries | • Heat and cold emergencies |
• Dressing wounds | • Submersion, Lighting Strikes, Altitude Sickness |
• Burns | • How to prepare a first aid kit |
• Head, neck and back injuries |
Participants must attend all four class meetings.
