Exercise and Thrive

Perseverance through cancer is a remarkable accomplishment. At the Y, you can continue your journey of recovery, gaining strength and support in a program for survivors.

The 12-week program, Exercise and Thrive is available to all adult cancer survivors, 90 days out of active cancer treatment to participate in the program. The curriculum was developed by the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.

Studies show that exercise can improve quality of life, lessen treatment side effects and help recovery. Participants in the Y’s E&T program strengthen muscles, increase flexibility and improve endurance while receiving health-and-wellness coaching from YMCA personal trainers during bi-weekly 90 minute sessions. They’re also introduced to mind/body activities such as yoga and have the opportunity to learn about healthy eating.

The ultimate goal of the program is to help survivors develop their own physical fitness regimen that they can continue on their own after the program ends.

The Exercise and Thrive program runs continuously all year long with the Olympic Peninsula YMCA. The YMCA of Port Angeles will have it during the Fall and Spring and the YMCA of Sequim will run the program in the Summer and Winter.
