Summer Meals & Activities

One in six children in the U.S. don’t know where their next meal is coming from. The summer is a particularly vulnerable time for kids who rely on free or reduced-price meals during the school year. At the Y, we know that children who receive daily nutrition are set up to succeed. That’s why we’re helping kids reach their full potential by providing free access to healthy snacks and meals when school’s out for summer.

In accordance with the Y’s commitment to healthy living and social responsibility, the YMCA of  Jefferson County will once again be providing FREE lunches and snacks this summer for all kids ages 18 and under.

In an effort to feed more children this year, two lunch-only open meal sites have been added to our three returning meals and activities sites and our day camp open meal site. All snacks and meals are healthy and comply with the USDA nutrition guidelines. Meal service is open for 30 minutes.

The Summer Meals and Activities Program is made possible through collaborations with USDA Summer Food Service Program, School’s Out Washington‘s Feed Your Brain Grant, United Good Neighbors, Jefferson County Library, Chimacum School District, and Jefferson County Parks and Recreation. We are grateful for food donations from WSU Gleaners and local farms, as well as the many volunteers and financial support from local service clubs, organizations and churches.

No identification or proof of income level required. All children welcome!

 Summer Meals & Activities

During the summer of 2016 we served over 15,500 delicious lunches and snacks in Brinnon, Chimacum, Quilcene and at 3 sites in Port Townsend.

When school's out, it's time to relax, decompress, and have fun with friends. Yet taking a break from school does not mean kids development is on vacation. Summertime at the Y focuses on the three key drivers of impact that inspire healthy youth development journeys: achievement, relationships and belonging.
